- Windows 95 version of the setup application.
-
- Environment
- -----------
- This software runs on and is supported on Microsoft Windows 3.x
- and Microsoft Windows 95. For Macintosh PowerPC users, please call 1800.804.282 and we will
- send you an Internet Access Kit on CD.
- No other environments are supported.
-
- Account Creation
- ----------------
- At the end of the Account Signup process the Telstra Big Pond
- Home systems are updated with your new account details. This
- process takes around 10 minutes. During this time you will NOT
- be able to logon. Make sure that you take note of the Username
- and Password that you select, you will need these to access
- the service.
-
- Known Problems
- --------------
- Windows 3.1x
- There are 2 known issues with the Windows 3.1x installation:
-
- 1. Newgroups.
- The Real Name (also known as Friendly Name) and Email Address
- are not being set for the news client. If these are note set,
- messages will appear to be coming from "Unknown".
- To fix this, please follow the list of actions below:
-
- a) Double-click on Internet Explorer in the "Microsoft
- Internet Explorer" program group.
- b) From the View menu, select "Options...".
- c) Click on the "Programs" tab.
- d) Click on the "News" button.
- e) In the bottom pane, enter your Name and Email address.
- The Name entered is how you will be identified in the
- newsgroups. The Email address is your username followed
- by "@bigpond.com", i.e: if your username was "jsmith",
- then the Email address you would enter would be
- "jsmith@bigpond.com".
- f) Click the OK button.
- g) Click the OK button.
-
- You are now set up for posting news articles. If you have
- any problems with this procedure, please contact the Telstra
- Big Pond Customer Support Centre on 131-282 and they will
- assist.
-
- 2. STD Dialling.
- If you are dialling STD to one of the Telstra Big Pond Home
- POPs (Points of Presence), you may encounter a bug in the
- dialler which results in an extra zero (0) being added to
- the front of the number. The way to check this is to
- double-click on the "Telstra Big Pond Home" icon (in the
- Microsoft Internet Explorer program group) and examine the
- phone number displayed. If it appears similar to
- "0 03 92900000" then you have this problem. To work around
- this, please follow the list of actions below:
-
- a) Open the "Microsoft Internet Explorer" program group.
- b) Double-click on the "Telstra Big Pond Home" icon.
- c) Click on the "Properties" button.
- d) Delete the leading zero (0) from the area code, i.e: if
- the area code was originally showing as "03", change it
- to be "3".
- e) Click the "OK" button.
- f) Check the phone number displayed, it should now look
- similar to "0 3 92900000" - don't worry about the
- space between the 0 and the 3, it won't affect the
- dialling of the number.
- g) Click the "Close" button.
- h) Click the "Yes" button in the "Save Changes?" dialog
- box that appears when you close the dialler.
-
- That should fix the mis-dialling. If you have trouble
- with this procedure, please contact the Telstra Big Pond
- Customer Support Centre on 131-282 and they will assist.
-
- Windows 95
- There are two known problems with the Windows 95 installation:
-
- 1. Installation Stalling.
- If you have not previously installed any Internet software
- you will have to reboot your PC twice during this install.
- After the second reboot, your PC may start up and go to
- the standard Windows 95 desktop without continuing the
- installation. If this happens, double-click on the
- "The Internet" icon on the desktop to continue the
- installation and start the signup process.
-
- 2. STD Dialling.
- If you are dialling STD to one of the Telstra Big Pond Home
- POPs (Points of Presence), you may encounter a bug in the
- dialler which results in an extra zero (0) being added to
- the front of the number. The way to check this is to
- double-click on the "The Internet" icon on the desktop and
- examine the phone number displayed. If it appears similar
- to "0 03 92900000" then you have this problem. Click the
- "Cancel" button after checking, Internet Explorer will then
- fail to find the home page. Click "OK" in the dialog box and
- then close Internet Explorer. To work around this, please
- follow the list of actions below:
-
- a) Click the Start button and select Programs, then
- Accessories and then Dial-Up Networking from the menus.
- b) Right-click on the "Telstra Big Pond Home" icon and
- select "Properties" from the menu.
- c) Delete the leading zero (0) from the area code, i.e: if
- the area code was originally showing as "03", change it
- to be "3".
- d) Click the "OK" button.
- e) Close the Dial-Up Networking folder.
- f) Double-click the "The Internet" icon on the desktop.
- g) Check the phone number displayed, it should now look
- similar to "0 3 92900000" - don't worry about the
- space between the 0 and the 3, it won't affect the
- dialling of the number.
- h) Click the "Cancel" button if you do not wish to dial
- in at this time.
-
- That should fix the dialling problem. If it has
- not or you have trouble with this procedure, please
- contact the Telstra Big Pond Customer Support Centre on
- 131-282 and they will assist.
